I have a five speed in my 86b2000 and my trouble is that when i reach speeds of at least 50 mph it sounds like im dragging a bunch of tin cans! I don't know why this is i first thought that i had exhaust pipes hanging but I've checked and checked and found nothing. Also i will add that the truck shifts smooth and the only other sound made is some shift linkage noise so yeah im stuck guys and being a noob i don't have the slightest idea where to start.

It's not to bad I don't think ! But please get 2nd opinion before changing it ! I would never intentionally mislead anyone! Where you located maybe if close by we can throw few guys together n do it n few hours ! I'm always up to helping out a fellow mini trucker!

metal on metal with nothing hanging out/off?
Throw out is a good place to look but it's odd that it's speed dependent.
Does it only come on at certain rpm or gear or load?
UJ's can sound pretty rooted when they're worn out, have a look there too. (though they usually have an accompanying shudder)

Im located in eastern Colorado and i don't know what rpm it starts making noise on account it has no tach but its usually ibkniw fourth or fifth gear once again thanks guys for the input. I'll check out those u joints too

Manual with no tacho?
What were they thinking!!! lol.

"Fourth or fifth" as in "fourth AND fifth" or you're not sure which?
If it's just fifth stick her in reverse and give it a fang and see if it makes the same noise.
That may tell you if it's linkage rattling around.
Q: 5th/rev use the same part in these trucks too?

Well i found the problem i was driving last night and the underside of my lil b started making this awful noise and shortly there after started vibrating like crazy so i creeped home at like 20mph and lifted it up and sure as shit there was a u joint busted all to hell. So thanks for all the replies guys and i guess im changing u joints tomorrow!

Like a boss!

Great that you found it, good luck changing the uj's.
Take some photos and turn it into a "how too". (if one doesn't already exist)
The next bloke with the same problems will have your solution to thank!
