I posted this: a few days ago on general tech, but thought I would post here with updates and a plea for help in hopes of getting a few more responses. Saturday I changed plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor. Screwed idling screw until I could finally get it to run long enough to get from the cab to under the hood and search for vac leaks. Spraying carb cleaner it clearly sped up when sprayed at back of carb plate so I got new manifold/carb gaskets and installed them. None of this had any affect on my problem. Sunday with it running the same, I started out for work. As usual, it was running fine between 65-70 mph until about 1/2 way into my 45 mile trip when it started running rough and with the peddle to the floor and in 3rd gear I could only maintain 55 mph. Got it to work and then when I got ready to leave that night it would not run at all. It would start, rev up OK and then start puttering no matter where I held or pumped the gas peddle and would eventually die. Always started right back up, but never did get it to run with sufficient power to even pull out of the parking lot. This afternoon I fooled around with it, pulling the carb again discovered I had put the medal plate between the two gaskets, changed that around and got it running again. It idled roughly for about 10 minutes as I checked for leaks again and then I drove it around the parking lot a few times with no major issues except running rough. (don't know how many characters I can use in one post so to be continued in next post)

After parking, I got under the hood again. As I was just getting ready to tinker some more it stalled out. As I was under the hood the ignition switch was still on and I didn't bother to shut it off. A moment later I was surprised to hear a gurgling sound and even more surprised when I looked in the carb and saw both sides full of gas and gas running down the throat of my carb. The pump did not shut off!!??!! I immediately shut the switch off and it finally stopped running gas into the carb. I cannot see a gas line in the clear sight glass at the front of the carb so I am assuming it is completely full. (when i worked on it Sat I could clearly see a gas level about 1/4 inch or so above the 'level' line on the sight glass) After sitting a few more minutes it started right back up again and I again drove it around the parking lot a few times before I parked it. It is back to not idiing again. So, fuel regulator, relay switch, float adjustment or what? Didn't want to chance driving it home in the dark so it is still setting at work until I can figure it out or whatever. Any help or clues what/how to check next would be GREATLY appreciated!!!
thanks
Chuck

ok i had a similar problem with mine, try starting it up then get under the bonnet and hold throttle open about 1/2-3/4 keep an eye on fuel level if it slowly drops then it may be fuel filter thats all mine turned out to be but if the carb is filling past level line then lower your float as well.

Thanks for the reply Mack. I had a solenoid sticking. Replaced and had carb professionally rebuilt and problem solved. Running like a champ now.
Thanks
