Hey all!

I am brand new to this forum, great site.

Well, my grandpa passed away and my dad is giving me his old farm truck (my dads sisters wanted to just crush the car!!), with only 98k. My dad is a mazda master mechanic and has been working on friggin mazdas since the 70s..he says the carb needs to be rebuilt on the truck.

Do you all think I should just buy a carb rebuild kit? Or just go on an throw a weber carb on instead?

Im just looking for some opinions here

Thanks a lot!

Easy choice: have your dad help with the carb rebuild or go Weber 32/36 DGEV if you can pass any emissions testing your area has.

The stock carbs are terribly complex, and all the vacuum lines must be right for them to work properly. So don't try to rebuild yourself unless you're really good and experienced at these.

Thanks for the reply.

The truck is in Arkansas and I live in Texas...so my dad is going to do all the work before I ship it over to Texas.

Would you recommend I just have him ditch the stock carb and install the weber?

If I do go with Weber...should I just buy it from ?

Or, do you know of any websites that carry them cheaper? I checked ebay, they are the same price.

Yeah they are pretty much the same price no matter where u look. Off topic but can you pass emissions with a Weber? I'm moving to a city where they test emissions and would like to know this before I do the swap... Sorry to thread jack and thanks in advance...

The answer depends upon that locale's emission test requirements. For example, most or all of California accepts no alternations from stock, tests back to mid-1970s. Phoenix/Tucson go by the tailpipe emissions and like to see no vacuum outlets capped (so we tube them together) and test back to 1967. Other counties of Arizona have zero testing.

I've revcently ditched the factory carb in favor of a Holley 5200 (same as 32/36 weber), as the stock carby was beyond kitting, and can vouch for the improvement it makes to running and driveabillity.
So unless emissions testing in your area prohibits doing the swap, then go the swap, hands down.
