Does anyone know how to take the shifter lever apart from the plastic gaskets and the seal at the bottom? The rubber boot at the bottom of our shifter lever is torn and needs replaced, but we can't get the old bits off. Help! The local Mazda service dept had never had to do this, so was no help.

should be 6 10mm bolts for the gasket that mounts on the cab around the shifter, and 3 10mm bolts around the shifter. everything else should be easy piesy.

upon a second reading, I realized what you meant. That part isn't serviceable. What I've done in the past is to wrap that part in electrical tape, and fill it with silicone RTV (black). I let it sit overnight, and it held up for a couple of years.

Check this thread and go down to the 8th post. This shows all the replacement parts for the shifter inside the cab going to the trans. These parts are available and hope my pic is big enough so you see the main seal(rubber with metal).See if this fixes the issue at least with info.

Thanks, 87forever.. We were able to order new black rubber boots from Mazda. They also gave us the page from the parts catalog, showing all the little plastic rings, etc on the shifter itself.

We need to remove the bottom of the shifter from the top of the shifter, the chrome from the base..so we can replace the transmission seal and the rubber boots.
