So hey guys I haven't really posted for a Lil bit but um back! Anyways like stated in the title I have a knocking noise at around 2k rpm and it comes and goes from there up to 4k. It sounds like a tinny rattle sometimes and sometimes like a knocking. The sound increases with the rpms but isn't constant. What do u think? I have a loose exhaust hanger so I thought that at first but Idk for sure and I don't wanna ruin my Lil motor buy driving with internal damages. Anyway to know for sure if it's internal? And yes I know about lifter tick and this isn't that. It does it both in gear and out clutch in and out no matter what. But like I said it isn't constant. Idk guys I'm just kinda lost here.... Thanks in advance,

Fred

how many miles are on that motor, could be a rod bearing.

Motor has a Lil over 200k wouldn't a rod knock be constant?

it didn't transfer the video, just the pic, but loose exhaust parts will rattle and bang around, mine did for a while. that's a big hole, maybe u got a rock or somthin in the muffler jingling around. lol

Idk how to post up video from photo bucket. Once I figure that out then I'll repost it. But the more I think about it the more I think that it's exhaust related.
Thanks,

Fred

Okay guys so I've determined that the noise lessens some when the motor is warm. But it doesn't sound like lifter tick. Idk what to do at this point but it's my only vehicle so I need to figure it out soon! I can't afford to not be driving... But I can't afford a full rebuild either...

Sorry to be all whiny and shit...

might be rod bearings, as tedious as it sounds they arnt too bad to get to. other than that, look for loose pullys check the fan clutch and ac clutch if u use it. and anything else u think might make that noise. my alternator had a loose bolt under it and it rattled like crazy and when the motor was running, it made it sound like the noise was in my head...... not my head the trucks head. lol u could try turning the motor back and forth and see if u here anything, id take a big ratched and just yank up and down, turn it back and forth kinda fast if possible and if u hear any knocking then, might be able to find it easier.

I hope it's not rod bearings but on a positive note it went away this afternoon. (today's been the first warm day in a long time!) this afternoon I drove into work for a meeting and it didn't make any unusual noises. Just the typical valve train noises. I'm starting to lean more towards exhaust noise because I looked under the truck again and the old (broken) hanger finally fell off! Maybe that was my issue? Idk though. The knocking/rattling noise doesn't sound like any rod knock I've heard before and it isn't audible from inside the cab only when I'm outside and when I have the windows down and at a red light.

I had a rattle or knock similar to what your talking about with only hearig it outside of at stop lights with the windows down. I discovered today that its the center of my grille rattling against my core support due to a missing bolt.
Your could easily be something like that or anything exterior wise that's rattled itself loose.
Good luck
