Truck runs like a champ at idle and and when half on the throttle. But if you try to run it to upper rpms it falls on its face and has not power! I mean Its a struggle getting around town and if there is a hill in the road. Forget about it whole lotta down shifting and lose lots of mph before I make it to the top. Hell I cant even spin tires in gravel... I have owned many mazdawgs and have never experinced this. Please Help!

Things I have tried to fix it. I swapped carbs because I thought mine was bad, nope still the same problem. Replaced the plugs, Wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filter.

I was thinking maybe a clogged converter but I have plenty exhaust pressure coming out.

Also does anyone know where the wire to the electric choke goes?

The electric choke wire connects to the rear of the alternator a single wire lead to a recessed hole. On your performance issue did you recheck your firing order of the distributor cap?

WOW! Ok let me get this right... The firing order is 1,3,4,2 correct? 1 is at the very front of the engine and the 4 cylinder is closest to the firewall correct? and at 9 oclock looking at the cap is the number 1 cylinder correct?

The reason I ask is because the previous owner had 1 cylinder closest to the firewall and i swapped everything and it wont start now...

HOLY SHIT! All of the timing is wrong! How the hell did this thing even run?

Apparently someone had the distributor body lined up OK, but I bet thew distributor rotor was installed while NOT at #1 TDC.

You need to line up the crankshaft pulley at #1 TDC (make sure it's at #1 TDC, and not at TDC #4 which is a full revolution off), pull the distributor out, and re-install with the rotor pointing to the 9 o'clock position when it's in TDC #1. Re-install the distributor cap with the wire for #1 over that 9 o'clock position going to the forwardmost spark plug, and so on, towards the rear.

See for a nice diagram of spark wires and TDC.
