So yesterday I was on my way to the gun range and I noticed my truck was having problems going up hill on the freeway it wasn't too bad so I didn't think much of it. This morning as I was leaving my boyfriends house I get on the freeway and I start accelerating and once I get up to 50 it starts to shudder and doesn't want to accelerate very well. It does just fine at lower speeds but when it gets up it doesn't want to go at all my suspicion is maybe a clogged fuel filter, a clogged cat or worn out cap, rotor and wires. How would I go about narrowing it down a little more, since I'm half an hour away from my shop I have limited tools, enough to fix all of those but I don't have any diagnostic tools with me.

Fuel filter replace is a good idea, and least expensive too. If that helps (even for a while), then consider that there's rust in the tank.

Looks like that will be the first thing I'm going to replace where is the filter located though?

Beside the firewall.

I'm in the wrong country!!!!!!!

I changed out the filter, the old one was pretty bad and it seems to have gotten worse the idle is really low and doesn't want to stay running especially at stop signs and it seems to sputter at any speed I checked the resistance on the spark plug wires and they were within range I'm guessing now it might be a clogged cat or a bad fuel pump.

I was having the same problem, my truck would hit 45-50 mph and act like it was running out of fuel. It turned out that the vacuum secondary (second barrel of the carb) wasn't opening. It worked out ok though because I wanted a Weber anyway

How much of a difference does the weber make? I would love to be able to give my truck some more power it's absolutely gutless lol.

Solution...EFI, then, TURBO!!! do it!

Not a huge increase in power but it will run way better since the stock carb never works right lol. Also you get rid of all the emissions crap cluttering up the engine bay.

I checked the resistance on the fuel pump and it was way too low so I ended up replacing it and it seemed to fix the problem
