Quick run down on what's going on. Last weekend I took the truck on a 200 miles round trip to Omaha. On our way home the truck started running worse and worse. Figured one of the adjustment screws on the carb vibrated and backed out. Made some adjustments, got the truck running better, then a few miles down the road, same thing. Get home and notcie the dizzy hold down bolt is loose and my timing was way out of wack. Retime the engine, retune the carb. Now the truck is back to running fine, for the most part. When holding around 1,500 rpm sometimes the truck will buck alittle bit. Most of the time after the truck has been parked for as little as 5 minutes, it will run like a$$. To me it seems like it's a fuel pressure issue. I removed the return fuel lines, and the truck seems to run better. My question is; Will I hurt the electric pump by removing the return line? I wouldn't think so, but I have been wrong in the past.

Yes I finally got the carb tuned back in. The electric pump seems to be working fine without a return line. I figured that the pump would overheat or fail somehow by building pressure and being forced to hold the pressure rather then send the unneeded fuel back to the tank. Everything is ok again. Still need some fine tuning, still hesitates alittle off idle.

Don't know??? Where the machincal pump would normally be on your head, I have a block off plate with a bracket coming off of it with two short tubes (main and return) on it. The fuel lines come up the fire wall like normal, the rubber lines to these tubes mounted on the head, the rubber lines continued to the carb. I just ran one rubber line from the hard line by the firewall straight to the carb and capped off the return line that's by the firewall. The tubes are still there just not doing anything.

okay good chance it's just a plain jane one then, it will be fine without a return, listen if you can hear a rattling sound without the motor on along the fuel lines, the rattle pumps never use a return

I slid a piece of rubber fuel tubing over the fuel line insulations on mine. I was planning to then wrap the rubber with asbestos paper but haven't done so yet. The tubing doesn't appear to have suffered at all in the meantime so maybe this step isn't absolutely necessary, but I probably will as a precaution.
