This is the part of your problem you must fix before carburetor tuning is even an option.

I'm not blaming the carb. at all. Just wanted some ideas to work with. If all else fails, then yes, weber will have themselves a paperweight. I contacted Weber to see what they think, and to get more info from them. They made the carb so why not go straight to the source for "hard info"? No need to be rude, cause that's how your post sounds to me.

Now you say to install a stock mechanical pump on the head? I know there is a block off plate on mine, but does the cam have the lobe to operate the pump? I'm guessing there is a incoming fuel line, a return line and output line going to the carb? Adding this pump sounds easier and cheaper then dropping the fuel tank to replace the electric unit.

A duddy of mine had a new mechanical pump, I put that one on and now I have great fuel pressure. Took the truck for a drive and it runs great. Still needs alittle fine tuning. Tried to get it up to highway speed to see how it runs in overdrive, but with a bed load of snow (squating the rear pretty good) and snow in the wheels, I could only get 55mph out of it. But at that speed with that kind of load, it ran ALOT better.

Thanks for the help.

everything that was happening to you is the same crap with me, but i have a 32/36, and idk what my fuel pressure is, too broke to buy one and install it, might just replace it anyways, when i 1st got the truck i replaced the fuel filter and the old one was nasty and the fuel was black.

im kind of havin the same problem.....just wanna make sure becuase im gonna ditch my mechanical pump for a electrical. i have a weber on my truck now, i just wanna make sure that 3.5 psi is what a weber needs before i install it all.

Yeah, I'm still having issues out on the highway. Since adding the mechanical fuel pump and correcting my fuel pressure problems, my in town driving manners are great. Bad manners on the highway still. One thing I'm going to try this spring is hollowing the cats. Thinking maybe they are plugged or partially plugged. If the my high manners get better, it'll give me a good reason to buy a Pacesetter. The other thing I'm going to try is changing the jets in the carb. See what that does. If these don't work then I'm out of ideas, my mechanic friends and my dad (old school carb mechanic) are out of ideas.

Finally got this thing figured out. My dad came up from kansas today (death in the family) and he looked at the carb. and drove the truck, he was trying to help over the phone. He came to the conclusion that the carb was running way too lean. He adjusted the choke so that the plate only opens about half way, and he performed his old school machic wizardry on the timing (I think he advanced it a couple degrees). Now the truck runs awesome. Great in town manners, and great highway manners. I didn't know this truck could have "power". Squeels the tires at stop lights, I can even get it loose going around corners. I like this truck again.
