My truck has been acting up for the past couple of days and it's something I haven't come across before. It's been taking a few extra seconds to start up but once it's running it idles normal, runs normal, goes to redline with no problem but it wants to die whenever i come to stops, usually doing so. If the stretch is long enough, and i take the truck out of gear and coast along, there seems to be no problem till I almost get to a stop. The RPMs drop to about 400-500 for up to 10 seconds and the motor either dies or jumps back to 750 like nothing happened. any ideas on where to start? Once the truck dies at a stop, it'll start up like normal so I'm stumped on where to start looking. Bad EGR valve? fuel pressure regulator starting to go? Injector problems? fuel filter?

I had that problem with my 86 B2000. On mine the timing was off a lil bit, I just adjusted the timing and fixed. Im not sure bout yours, mine was carbed.

I'll have to break out timing light after work. I set timing aboot 2 months ago for smog and distributor seemed fine when I checked yesterday, nut is tight and no wiggle.

sounds like your engine is losing a lot of vacuum when you are hitting on your brakes, once the air velocity increases in the engine it stabilizes itself out. try bumping your idle up 100rpm, it may be set a little too low.

wasn't timing or vacuum lines. ended up being that lying whore of a fuel gauge....gas tank was completely bone dry.
