Could be bad fuel possibly. When is the last time you did a tune up?

havent done a tune up sense ive had it (about 2 months... only been driving it for like 1 month) ive gone through 3 tanks of fuel, so i donno that its a fuel issue. also it surges at idol too...

im sure i could do a tune up.. couldnt hurt.

plugs,wires,dist. cap, what else?

possible causes I've read about or had from personal experience.

weak fuel pump
leaking fuel pump
clogged fuel sock in tank
rust in fuel lines
(ok I had all 4 of those happen to me at once, plus rusty tank.)

Clogged cat
timing waaaaaaaay advanced
plugged carb jet
slightly stuck open EGR valve

hairline break in plug wire, causing intermittent short to ground when RPMs are high. Do the water mist test for this at night.

i noticed the other day i got shocked when the truck was runnin and i touched the dist cap.... that should all be sealed up right? indicating failed plug wires???

i gotta pull the head back off, today i orderd a head gasket set ( so i can swap the valve seals out and hopefuly fix the smoke issue) also got a carb rebuild kit. so ill go through that as well... hope this shit fixes it.

that is a possibility. do a night mist test. At night, take a spray bottle with a mist setting on it, rev the engine to like 2-3K, then spray around the plug wires. if there's a break or failure somewhere you **should** see a blue arc in the water.
