so i was runnin 15w40 rotella in it for oil after i swapped the head gasket out. noticed the past couple mornings it would smoke a bit when i first started it up. well last night i put some 5w30 and some lucas in it.... the truck than sat while i did my edc. started it up and it smoked like a mother fucker untill it got warmed up a bit. (jus a couple min).. once warm no more smoke....

started it this morning to come to work, same shit, not quiet as bad, but smoked for about a min or so then cleared up.

EGR???
VALVE SEALS???

seems like oil smoke to me?
but i could be wrong.

Valve seals would be my best guess at this point, or it could be the lower oil rings on the pistons that takes some time to warm up and expand.

I have the same problem. I replaced the valve seals and that didn't fix the smoke problem. The seals only set me back $12.00 and only took a few hours to replace. You may want to try that and hope it works. Check your tube coming off your pcv and see if its full of oil. Good luck!

i dont see it being very likely, but is it possible to swap the stem seals out without pullin the head?

They make a fitting that screws into the spark plug socket and you hook it up to an air compressor. That holds up your valves. Then you have to compress your spring and remove the retainer clip. Then you will be able to remove the spring and change out the seals.

I believe when you changed your oil to the thinner oil it allowed it's self to seap pass the Valve seals which also it could be getting by the Piston rings and also since you said it did it before but not that bad with the thicker oil I would probably guess the valve seals which I would check first
