new valve seals... still smokes in a.m

i donno wtf.... went through the head this weekend and did every gasket/seal there was to replace.

even with new valve seals it stil smokes in the morning then clears up...


any ideas?

It may take a while for the smoking to stop. I changed mine then after a month it slowed down. You may have a lot of oil and crud sitting on the back of the valves and it will take a while for the gas to wash it off.

I only drive less than a half mile to my work so when the smoking did not stop over the next few days I got pissed.

Do you let it high idle in the mornings while it warms up, mine will smoke if it does and if I rev the motor heavy while it's cold.

i took a wire wheel to the valves and cleaned em really well... but as far as the high idol thing goes, i let it run up for a second then i have to tap the gas peddal for it to drop down to regular idol... smokes high or low idol... hopefully they just need time to seat..?

damn i hope its just some time... m.f'er smoked bad too when i just went to go get some grub... and its not even cold outside... just sat for like 6 hrs

does it stop once it is warmed up? your rings might be stuck in it.

yeah, it clears up after 30 seconds or so, then dont smoke at all...

could anything to do with the carb or emmisions bs be doing it ya think?

Sounds to me like a hairline crack in the head did you have it pressure tested when you had it off?

i didnt....

my truck smoked like a SOB when i got it.

i'd start it up and it would take 5 mins of warming up to quit.

tore it down replaced valve guide seals and it helped with most the smoking.

then decided to take it back apart even more and put in new pistons.rings.bearing. and now it don't smoke at all. high or low rpm i'm smoke free now.
