So I just replaced my battery today hooked it up no problems, alarm came on, lights turned on, no issues. As soon as I tried to turn it over a large spark came from the battery and everything shutoff for a second and lights came back on. I know I have a short some where but no idea. Could I have a short from the starter? Hopefully some experts can chime in.

Do you have any aftermarket wiring done to your truck like an audio system? I don't know if your year has a type of starter solenoid or relay but if it does it when you try to crank it definitely trace the wires from the starter and see if it has some copper exposed and is touching metal.

nope unplugged it awhile ago because my alternator cant get up.

Was everything working perfectly before the battery swap?

Yea, it was running great. then the battery went bad and just now gotta around to put in a new one. It has been sitting since the beginning of July I have a feeling something chewed through a wire. I just gotta hunt it down.

Did you make sure the connections were tight on the battery? If they were loose that could cause it to spark. Its dumb, but something to check anyway.

Also do yourself a favor and check the main fuse by the battery..when they sit they like to go bad

Yea, I did that after I tighten them to make sure before I started it.

Ok What is the plug on the left there with the hole in the middle? It is a power wire or should that be grounded out? Reason why I am asking is I took my DMM hooked it up one on the ground and one on the hole in the Starter. I set it the DMM to the ohm setting to see if it would beep and did, so is that a ground?

So I have been do some more testing and I think I figure out what cause the problem. There is a constant 12 volt power wire, the ground wire, and a remote wire which is plugs up to that spot if I am not mistaking. But the adapter part of the starter is grounded off some how and the wire that hooks up should be the remote wire. So do I need to replace the starter?
