Hi everyone. I need to know which gasket the one in the picture with the arrow is. This would help a lot. Also, my water pump gasket is leaking, is it worth doing the pump while I am at it? I have the gaskets leftover from my set so it would be economical to just do the gaskets but I assume it is worth replacing.

Thanks a lot.

well if you have the pump off to replace the gasket, then i would replace the entire pump. it would suck if you reinstalled it and it went out a week later. im not certain what that gasket goes to, was this a universal kit for the 2000, 2200 and the 2600's?

Yeah I thought so. The gasket set was from Mazda and I'm sure it was 2200 specific.

only thing that i can think is that is an exhaust gasket where your emissions go down to the bottom of the header after the cat convertor

The arrowed one is NOT an exhaust gasket (the one just above it is bottom of exhaust manifold to top of first catalytic converter gasket). I believe the arrowed gasket goes between the front part of the cylinder head and the main part of the cylinder head (I just did my B2200 engine rebuild in October). You'll be removing that front part to put in the camshaft seal that you show in the second-to-bottom opening in the head gasket in your photo.

Since you've got the timing belt off already, I'd replace the entire water pump. Because what if the leak is shaft seal leakage from the water pump weep hole and not from the gasket? You'd be tearing into it again. I did my water pump and new timing belt in May due to WP leakage out the weep hole. When I installed the new pistons, rings, connecting rod bearings, and rebuilt cylinder head, I didn't touch the 5-month-old WP.

Cusser hit it on the head....no pun intended. In fact when i went to replace one in my truck i could not get ahold of that gasket and actually bought some gasket material and made a few of them to keep. One week later i bought a parts truck and there were five of these in the glove box!!!!!!!

Ah ok perfect yeah that would be it.

Well the reason I am doing this repair was because it turns out my slow coolant leak was because the shop that rebuilt the bottom end of my motor didn't put either of the two WP gaskets in. Yes just metal on metal. I put 20,000 km on my truck without them! And I also paid the shop a lot...

But anyways, thanks for your help guys

So why are you not just replacing the two water pump gaskets? That's a lot easier than taking the cylinder head off. I think I replaced just one gasket on mine, and did not replace the rubber O-ring seal that goes to the pipe on the driver side of the engine, because I can always change that readily later if needed

The rebuild shop gave me some gaskets back (this was over 3 years ago) and told me some lie that they weren't needed, one of which is the gasket in the picture and the others being the wp gaskets. I'm replacing the water pump, gaskets, timing belt and pulleys.

If I only have to remove the camshaft sprocket and front housing to get to the gasket in the pic then I will, as long as I don't risk screwing up my motors timing.
