I have an '89 B2200 with a cracked head. It cracked in two places. Well i've been shopping around and found a couple heads online. But they want to know if its hydraulic or mechanical. How do I tell the difference. I went all the way through the threads and if there is one already I must have missed it.

to determine if your head is mechanical or hydraulic you need to look at the end of the rocker arm. if it is mechanical it will have an adjustment nut. if the cylinder head is hydraulic it will not. hope this helps

89 B2200 would be factory hydraulic lifters. But unless you've had it all the time, could have had B2000 head swapped on by a previous owner. So check like above response stated.

Cusser is right, I've yet to see a factory 2.0 with hydraulic lifters. However a mechanical swap is popular. You can always get the 2.0 head with the mechanical lifters and transfer over the distributor plate from your old head to the new head.

oh, I had another thought as to identify which rockers you have. The mechanical lifters have a slot where you can fit a flat head screwdriver and a nut holding that stud in place.
The hydraulic lifters don't have anything sticking out the top of them.
