Mazda Miata Fan - Episode 3 - Manual Transmission / Shifter Oil Change
" target="_blank

Can anyone tell me if this will work for a 1988 Mazda B2200 pickup?

You don't have to watch the whole video.
@6:53 on the video, he begins filling up the Transmission oil.

Around @12:30 he begins to extract the "Shifter Oil" (same type of fluid, I believe).
I don't see any reference to replacing the "Shifter Oil" in my Mazda Shop Manual.

I've never done this before. But I had one mechanic tell me that you can fill up the Transmission fluid from the "top" by removing the shifter. In other words that they are the same cavity.
At least for the vehicle in this video, it wouldn't seem so.

Thanks,

I've changed out the manual transmission gear oil on my 1988 B2200 several times in the 17 years I've owned it. I've just drained out the old gear oil, then used a small handpump that screws onto a container of gear oil, purchased at O'Reillys or AutoZone, and fill through the side hole until gear oil is at the fill plug level, pretty straightforward. That bottle top pump is only a few dollars.

Others here like to simply take off (or rip !!!) the several shifter boots and add using a funnel, guess they think that's easier. But some like to be chancy and play the game of trying not to get gear oil spilled in the truck interior. And those boots are not cheap either, dealer items mostly.

But with that little pump, you can also re-fill the rear differential gear oil after draining, at the same time.

Although my truck is not the B2200 (mine is a B2600i 4x4) if you try to fill it through the shifter boot, you end up filling up the transfer case to the top......don't ask me how I found this out............
