I have been running my rebuilt engine for about 2 months now, I notice when warm, especially after a highway drive, I have a ticking lifter or a couple. I have zero valve train noise when the engine is cold, and even as it is warming up. The lifter tick is not as noisy as my old engine which ticked for a few seconds when first started, but enough to easily hear from outside the truck, and if you have the radio off and the windows rolled up you can barely hear it.

What I have in the engine is brand new lifters, brand new (not re-man) head, and 8 brand new valves, the cam and rockers are used. The engine I rebuilt was a 91 carb motor, my truck is a 93 EFI. My original motor had noisy lifters when cold, but completely silent after a few minutes of start up. The only thing I can think of is I remember reading that the oil supply line to the lifters was enlarged by quite allot sometime around 91, maybe my lifters are not getting enough oil when the oil thins when warm. Is there a way to check if I got the old rockers by a casting number or something? I no longer have my 93 motor to check against.

Well the info is from sept 1,1989 rocker arm has been changed. This was specific on 87-89models but still most of bs still ticked. This was for the hydraulic lash adjuster, and can't see if you swapped would be any different on specs over your old 93.In short the diameter of the oil passage was modified from 0.031 to 0.078in just for info.I do not know what oil filter your using but try using a wix or mobil one or even a K/N these tend to alleviate this compared to cheaper cost filters even tho I still use fram(most frown on) but works for MY truck.Instead of digging back into the engine with a rebuild go simple, change oil do a new filter and the mobil is like 13.00 at advance not sure on wix,or kn cost.

If you used your used rocker arms you might be loosing oil pressure from there.
