I just bought an 89 B2200, had a loud squeel so I did the normal punch the belt and got a ton of movement between the idler and the power steering pump. someone had used a pipe wrench on the lock nut but with a little smoothing I got my 22 mm to go over and it's loose too. I ran the screw down and got a good 3/8 or less deflection and went to tighten the lock nut, it hardly moves?...when I have it tight the adjusting bolt can still be turned (it's not real easy) so now I'm worried that I may need to change out the complete Idler section. Can anyone tell me where to find a break down picture of this assembly?, maybe someone pulled the lock bolt completey out and lost something from inside the unit. I'm clueless about this so any help will be good help. thanks

the long bolt is just for adjusting the tension and the nut on front of it tightens up the adjusting bolt so it will not turn. How old is the belt? might it be streched?I have a spare one if you need one.

Ok, I've got that part about the long shaft only being for the travel adjustment, my issue is that i can not seem to crank enough tourqe to the lock bolt so that I can not put a screwdriver on the adjustment bolt and turn it. Well I guess I should say that I have not put an extension on my 1/2 inch drive breaker bar to add stop power to the lock bolt. I mean, if i lean on a 15 inch breaker until it stops, how can this not be enough pressure on the adjusting shaft to stop it from turning??? with a 12 inch long flat tip screwdriver. it does not turn easy, but it does turn.

any way you can remove the adjuster and add some 1 or 2 more nuts so you can use them as a lock nut system in the meantime on the adjuster?

You can get a replacement idler puller from autozone for about $30...
