They're all black dry and sooty?
On the electrodes right? (body is usually black and sooty)
Sounds like its running rich.
Which means too much fuel or lack of air.
Poor spark can also have poor effects so check your leads, cap etc.
Check to see that your solenoids are working correctly in your carb too.

could the timing belt have jumped time? to check just take the plastic timing cover off the bottom mark should be pointing straight up to the timing mark on the oil pump and the cam sprocket the #1 on the cam gear should be pointing at the timing mark at the top not the zero.

I would replace your plugs(obvious) new wires ( I use accel 8mm) yes u have to buy a v8 set so you have two.Update your cap, rotor and oxygen sensor if old,and if it is running rich could be the air/fuel solenoid and or needs a carb rebuild.Do the tune stuff 1st then if rich smell of gas rebuild carb. Will not run on with more suggestions just some simple things to do,and make sure your charge air pipe filters in the air clnr are not blocked up,and egr is cleaned out(below carb and 3 ten mm bolts,1 vac line, and 1 elec hook up) and pcv and air filter are good.Done and tired after the crazy temps yardworking.
