SO saturday I changed the oil for the second time since I have had the truck. No issues... while changing it. Only other thing I have done is I degreased the tranny and lower part of the engine block. I use straight 30. After chaning the filter and putting the front end back on the ground, I put n fresh oil. Started and let it run for a couple minues. No smoking. I did not drive the truck until Monday morning to go to work. The 'cum b*tch was smoking bad. Smoked for about 30 seconds and that was it. IT did it 8 hours later when I came home from work. I parked the truck and checked the oil level and it was fine. I let it cool and checked again. Oil level is fine. Coolant looks fine (looking for oil). Did the same thing this morning. I'm hoping that it isnt the rings, but something tells me it is... What do you guys think?

If it only smokes at start up, typically the valve stem seals, so if the smoke goes away shortly after, either replace those or ignore it.

Oil ring failure typically delivers smoke most of the time (like mine, before the Oct. 2011 rebuild).

I'd say this has NOTHING to do with the straight 30 wt. engine oil either; I use either straight 40 wt. Valvoline or 30 wt., and have since I bought the '88 in 1994.

thanks Cusser. Sounds like a plan. Guess I would just watch the oil for now and save up for the kia swap.

Or re-do your existing engine. Mine cost $700 out of pocket to fix, and a few days. See
