high idle speed

hi i have recently purchased 1990 b2200 carbed. it was running fin at normal idle speeds and had a bad oil leak in front so i replaced the front crank seal did the timing belt and water pump while i had it open aswell. i put everything back together and now everytime i fire it up she revs past 2000+ i have checked vaccum lines for leaks but nothing

did you put coolant in it? i had a hose blow all my coolant out one time and as soon as it popped off my engine would rev with out the resistance of your water pump. i drove it another 1/4 mile without my foot on the gas cause it drove itself. haha see if you got enough coolant in it. i know it sounds kinda dumb but it is possible. or maybe you knocked the timing belt off a tooth. when i adjust my distributor and the idol goes highest, i turn it back a little cause even tho its idling higher its not getting quite the power. so maybe same concept. good luck.

Stock carb or Weber?

i had to tie my choke back because even with the wire unplugged from the alt. everytime i hit the gas it engaged the choke. i had to retie it this mornin. haha gotalovamazda

If the high idle is sticking and want idle down the carb linkage needs to be cleaned!!!!! I know first hand(25yr owner) the carbs linkage for this is super prone to sticking.Use brake cleaner on the OUTside of the carb to clean super nice.Then lube it with graphite powder or liquid wrench on the moving pieces of the carb on the outside.Unless your timing is off a touch or a vac line is cracked or not connected this is a easy correction.Carb cleaner is recommended for this as well,but in my opinion brake cleaner works better on the cables,and really removing the grime out the outside of the carb,and dries clean.I can't count how many times I have done this,but yearly is a must for no issues at least for mine.
