Doing a wire tuck on my 89 b2200 and somewhere along the way I lost where the two wires on my alt go... one is white w black stripe and other is black w white stripe.. I read that the white is for the dumass light and the black goes to a 12v switched source... need verificaton..thanks

ok after reading around on here i find that my theory/belief seems to be correct.... sooo... can i just run the black wire with white stripe/ ignition wire to any 12volt switched source and if so what size fuse should it have?

The black wire is the one going to the stud on the alternator, and goes through the 80 amp fuse before connecting to the battery. It should always read battery voltage.
The other two go to the plastic plug that connects to the alternator.
The white/red does go through the 30 amp fuse before connecting to the battery. This should always read battery voltage also.
The white/black wire goes to the charge bulb in the instrument cluster. This is the excite wire for the alternator. It should only read voltage with the key in the "on" position. If no voltage is present in this wire, at the alternator plug, with the key on, the alternator just free-spins, and will never charge. The bulb has to be good for this one to work properly.

i no longer have the stock dash or that light or the gauge cluster... im making a custom dash and plan to go with aftermarket gauges,,,, so how can i wire the plug without the light and the factory shit... and which wire in the plug needs power when key is on? and do i need the other wire if its just for the alt light? im confused now... lol.
