I run a mechanical fuel pump on my '88 B2200 from AutoZone, cost under $50, lifetime warranty (my original one leaked gasoline).
This will come with a plastic spacer and two gaskets, I'd use sealer on the gaskets. Label the three rubber lines before removing them. You'll need a 12 mm socket wrench with an extension.
R&R should be no longer than 20 minutes, the hardest part will be getting the big stock air cleaner up and to the side for access, the pump is on the cylinder head, passenger side, near the firewall. Change the fuel filter while you're in there. Don't overtighten the two fuel pump bolts as you could break the plastic spacer (which could be your problem right now).
