newly built engine not turning over with spark plugs in it..

1989 2.2 litre engine. had it bored ,30 over. new pistons rings cam bearings etc. with the plugs in it the starter is struggling to turn it over. the motor wil make one rotation and then just stop. i removed the plugs and turn the key and it turns over and over and over and over etc etc etc. lmao. i figure this is a high compression issue... but how do i get this starter to turn this bitch over enough to start it!? HELP A CRACKA OUT!

starter goin out?? loose starter wire?? timing off?? plug wires not in firing order???

Starter is old but idk . Plug wires are correct. Dist is set at number one plug when engine is at tdc.all wires are tight. Andif the starter was bad wouldnt it not turn the engine at all . It turns fine without the plugs in. But its jot strong enough to turn with compression on the engine...I have a 8 gauge wire running straight from the battery to the starter...

theres no compression when the plugs are out so it will turn over super easy i had a similar problem on my 78 monte with a 383 stroker i had the factory chrome one turned the 350 over no prob when i installed the 383 it would turn super slow bought a new one turned over no prob. i think u can take ur starter to auto-zone and they can do a load test what about ur battery???

and also is ur cam at the right timing mark too?

Checked all timing . Dist cam and bottom end all set right . The starter is super fucking hot now. Thd battery is at 13 volts. When the starter is turning it pulls the battery down to 3 or 4 volts! Deff taking the starter in to get it checked. Im thinking its fucked up.

New engine might have more resistance just by being new, and how long did all this take, battery may be low. Did you try a jump start?

Yes, the voltage should be 9.6 volts or higher while trying to crank. But still could be a bad starter pulling too much power, or maybe just getting hot because it's under such load.

Jump starting or putting in a known good batter (assuming terminals and cables are clean and good) is a lot easier than pulling the starter. But AutoZone and O'Reillys will test both for free.

Brand new battery. New terminals and power wires. Jumped battery off of a running vehicle. Also connected jumper cables from running vehicle directly to starter.it did the same thing. Took it and had it tested.they say its failing...I bought a reman with a lifetimwe warranty. Gonna put it in later. We will see lmao
