just bought the truck for $800 a few days ago.. the auto tranny works perfect and I already drove it 500 miles with no issues beside the white smoke and the high idle speed after warm up.... when in neutral is when it idles high or in park... while in gear it idles normally... I changed the spark plugs, oil, and air filter already and it had NO signs of a blown Head gasket since no oil on the plugs and the coolant is normal and no mayo in the oil... I am posting the video to show whats going on.. also i found on here to hard wire the yellow choke line to the positive terminal to get it back and running normally... but did not do anything... please help! i am not a mechanic and i am a newb who likes to learn to do my own things...

here is a video of whats going on!'

also seems to be burning a decent amount of oil... did the oil change and had to add a couple quarts in 500 miles.... what does that mean?

How many miles? These trucks are well known to need the piston rings replaced.

Well the odometer says it has 117,000 miles on it and I do not know if that is correct or not.. but i am sure they have been 117,000 HARD miles judging from the look of things.... is a piston ring job really hard? is it something i can do?

Choke heater wire should plug into rear of alternator, not coil positive.

It is burning so much oil now... it runs perfect though besides the high idle and all... could the white smoke be that it is burning so much oil? it has no oil leaks....but smokes white... i put lucas oil in it to try and thicken it and it went through that in about a tank of fuel... i am lost on what to do... is it worth fixing or sell it?

I rebuilt my B2200 engine October 2011 due to excessive smoke, did this without removing the engine, did almost everything except for crankshaft and main bearings. Did connecting rod bearings, new pistons, new rings.

Cost me about $700 out of pocket.

thanks for the idea.. i finally found the plug and it fixed the choke high idle issues... as far as the motor rebuild ... i think i will continue with pouring oil in it... the rebuild would be more than the truck is worth... I called a few mechanics today and some say they think its the valves that are causing the oil issues because the miles seems too low for a piston ring issues...what do you think?

Calculate how much $$$ of oil the engine will consume in a year. Chances are that will be way less than a rebuild, if that's the only reason to rebuild. You'd need to "guess' how many years you may keep the truck, its overall condition, etc.

I did my rebuild more to reduce smoking than to reduce oil consumption. My compression was 165 psi on all four, at 182K miles.

You'd be lucky if the valve stem seals were 90% of the problem; some swap these seals out with the cylinder head in place, by using compressed air or string to hold the valves in place for each cylinder.
