cold idle too high, how to adjust?

cold start, my idle shoots up to near 3,000 rpm, and after a few minutes and a blip of the gas pedal, it idles nicely at around 800.

I can't imagine 2800-3,000 rpm is ideal for a cold engine, I would expect 1500-1800 for the cold idle.

is there an adjustment for just the cold idle?

thanks

factory carb or weber?...either way its not right

Thank you for the replies, I will add some more info:

The carb is a factory unit, and it has all the original emissions etc.

The carb is pretty clean, in a different post, I talked about an oil leak the truck had, which is now resolved.. but due to that oil leak the engine was dirty, so I did clean it up pretty good, including the carb.

I did also spray some carb cleaner into the carb while the truck was running to clean the inside a little.

The iac kind of makes sense, but wouldn't a bad iac cause idle issues even when warm? I will try it though, because just unplugging it is easy enough. I did not think a carb'd vehicle would have an IAC, thought it was only an injected engine thing. ...good to know.

as far as blipping the throttle, that only works after it has idled for about 2 minutes (warmed up) within the 2 minutes, you can hit the pedal all you want and it just keeps returning to the 2800 or so.

and there is no tension on the throttle cable, I had to remove it when doing other work, and it is on there how it should be (a little slack).

if there is something electronic causing the crazy idle, there must be some kind of cold idle circuit.

and the truck runs really well now, had to resolve someones head gasket blunder (in my other post) but it has new head gasket, fuel pump, timing belt, plugs cap rotor, timing is set to 6 degrees. It drives around really well, so its just down to the that idle issue, and I'll have a reliable little truck!

Pardon me.... I was posting late night and did not look close enough to notice that this post was in the 2.2L section. I just assumed that you were talking about a B2600i. Doh! So disregard all my talk of IAC. I'm not too familiar with the carbs, but I'm sure some who are will come along with some advice. I should probably just go back and delete my posts! LOL

Easy fix... under the air cleaner housing on the back of the card, there is a little round black plastic housing with a wire going to it. Loosen the three screws that go into it (do not remove them) and rotate the plastic housing clockwise.

Slowly adjust.

Not to sound silly but did you bother to lubricate the linkage? These factory carbs are notorious for sticking high idle arms.Even tho it starts good and runs fine then idles up crazy points exactly too this!I would use liquid wrench and even some graphite powder on the moving throttle parts, and the idle arm that goes hi/low for idle when cold. These stick like a #$ch and I know after 26 yrs and making a point to clean and lube this every year.I lay odds this is your real problem.Hope this helps and place some rags under the linkage to catch the residue from making a greasy mess below on your starter.

Very good point. I didn't think of this. I also had to do mine after sitting for 6 months.
