whats up guys.

got my 3rd B-series the other day.

got A problem.

89 b2200 short bed

carbed

in cali(smog crap on engine)

.
water squirts out the radiator resivor overflow thing all over the inside of the wheelewell.Hot steamy water/coolant.have to refil it every time.
I have driven it 4 times and happened all 4 times, have to putt a gallon or more of collant.

you think it is A blown head gasket or cracked head?

hard to start and blows white smoke when cold(first start of the day I have to keep my foot on the gas till it warms up or it will die).my guess is one of those solenoid on the carb

There is white residue in the oil.havent checked to see if there is oil in the collant because it empties.I might let it idle for 10 minutes and see if it still spits out.

goes through oil quick have added A 2 quarts over the last week.

My guess is blown head gasket/cracked head.Would love another opnion before I pull the head and get it checked/resurfaced and re-do the valve guides

I only owned it for A week,I think the last guy ran some bars/blue devil through it and sold it to me(seriously needs an ass beating if he did that)

it was smogged 4 month ago and passed.

wires, filter, coil, ect all look new so it had a tune up recently(guessing before smog was done)

It ran good the first drive, took it about 20 miles on freeway, got it up to 65mph.then parked it and started having problems the next day.

Sounds like your head gasket is gone. I would pull the head, get it checked for cracks and maybe resurfaced if it is warped. While you are that far into the motor, change your rings, all you have to do is pull the oil pan. Your oil consumption will mostly be from rings worn out. If you change the head gasket, rings, and valve stem seals, it should take care of all of your problems.

Thanks for the response
Just needed someone to tell me I was right about the HG.
I'll have get the head resurfaced, just hoping its not cracked.

I thought about doing the rings.
I never done that before and it scares me A little.
Not sure if I'll have to get new pistons or if I can just get by on new rings.

autozone loan-a-tool.

question about rings.

if I pull the pistons and re-ring them.If I hone the cylender do i have to get new pistons?

if my head is good and just needs resurfacing,I might just purchace rings and pistons. But if I need A new head, there goes all my money.

can i use A 89 b2200 head on my 87 b2200?

Yes, you can use a 89 head on an 87 I recommend having it checked by a machine shop 1st though. Also, it would be best to hone the cylinders, just be sure to protect the connecting rod bearing surface of the crankshaft by using plastic wrap, or something to keep the metal/sandpaper from getting on the mating surfaces, and then clean everything real good and lube with engine assy lube upon re-installation. Also important is to get the ring end gaps in the right position during re-assy.

Cusser would be the one to ask, as he has one this on his truck. He should be along shortly.

If the '87 is a B2200 easier than if the '87 is a B2000...

there is no visible leak while driving, cant check the level because fluid will just spit out 5 minutes after ts out.

temp gauge dont work

might be white in the oil from short trips.

yeah white smoke on start up,not to bad tho.you can smell antifreze some times.Only gives problems the first start up of the day in the morning.

I'll try A new cap first, work it gona do is set me back a few hours and$10.

might try removing the therostat, just to shut a few people up.

I'm preparing for the worst right now.Making sure if my head is warped,I have easy access to A new one.Found A remanuactured one on ebey for $200+35.My head gasket set and head bolts are at napa waiting to be picked up $130.new rings are only around $40,will take a day for them to arive at napa.get paid monday.

Guess I'll try the cap today.

edit::off walkin to autozone going to replace the cap and replace the thermostat(new gasket and sealent and thermo)

well they gave me a thermoste housing gasket for the 2.6...unsyre if its the same or if it will work.rtv gasket it is then...
