Hey all, I have a issue with my B2200. In the morning the things runs very rough. I have to keep rpm's up to keep it from stalling. Once it warms up, it runs ok, but has a "surging" thing going on. My truck has 180k. New dizzy, wires and plugs. New EGR valve. New thermostat. I bought the truck ast year and was siitng for about two years before that. The previous owner had receipts for a recent rebuilt carb, egr valve and the dizzy. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, hoses and thermostat. The truck just started this very recently. My gut tells me possible clogged cats. I have to replace muffler since it has holes in it. She does burn oil, only in the morning as most mazda's do. Wordy, I know but thanks for your help.

did they mess with the fuel/air screw when the rebuilt the carb?, mine was turned all the way in when I got it, took a few months b4 I tried messing with it but when I did, it was screwed all the way in (clockwise) and I had to back it out, immediately my rpms picked up and I had no surging issues. I had to lower my idle, could also be a vacuum leak, spray some starter fluid around carb and intake, if theres a leak, the rpms will change, youl hear it and youl know if there is one. my truck also has trouble in the morning, this is typical with a carbed motor especially with many miles. takes mine a few to get all cylinders firing.

I have never messed with the carb the truck has been in my possesion. The truck ran very good until just about a couple weeks ago. I changed the fuel filter and ran some treatment through. I was also thinking a vacuum leak. I used some carb cleaner and sprayed around and in the carb. That helped a little bit, but not much.

Quick update. I tested the coil and it is not in spec. I will get a new one, and a o2 sensor as well. This morning she smoked a lot more than usual. Usually it is just a small amount. Today it was alot. Pure white smoke. I checked the oil , and everything looks fine. Same with coolant. I now have less power and cannot accel past 5k while coming onto the freeway. My gut tells me it may be one of the cats, as my maxima drove like this when the cat in that took a dump. Any thoughts?

Our trucks have a pre-cat convertor below the exhaust manifold. This jar size metal cannnister has screens inside that catch carbon buildup. This can only be removed from the bottom and LUBE the bolts days before with liquid wrench or similar penatrating fluid. The pre cat has a metal gasket as do the pair pipes(or charge air pipes to be specific) that has a metal gasket as well. You can either clean the screens out with brake cleaner or punch them out(will not hurt it) just more flow.If your cat is way old I would replace it and same for muffler bc it may be clogged up from trash as well.

I punched mine out last night, all it does is restrict air flow, we don't need two cats anyway. doesn't really make it much louder or anything, most of the time they get clogged

Im going to puch out the pre-cat this weekend. I have a new main cat I will put on, along with a new muffler ($15 stainless apc). The guy said he will 2.25" from cat-back and dump a foot after muffler for $110
