I have a 1989 B2200 and i need some advice on replacing the front main seal(crankshaft), and camshaft seal. I took it apart yesterday. Removed radiator and fan. Removed plastic covers from timing belt. Also the harmonic balancer was removed. I took the timing belt off to try and remove the timing sprocket to get to the seal which I am assuming is right behind the lowest timing sprocket. Camshaft would be the most upper one i know. The problem is i couldnt remove those sprockets. I tried putting the harmonic balancer pully back on the timing sprocket and using a puller against the crankshaft bolt to try and pull them off together with no luck. I have since put it back together frustrated as it is my only vehicle at the moment. So basically i need to know the easiest way to remove the crankshaft and camshaft timing sprockets to get to the seals. I could be going about this all wrong any advice would be very helpful for this newbie.
Thanks in advance guys

The first and most obvious is, you removed the bolt from the center of each sprocket, right?

The cam sprocket will (should) come off very easily.

The crank sprocket can be a beast sometimes. I've had good luck first removing the bolt, then spraying some PB blaster, Kroil, Penatrol, etc. in, on, and around it. Let it sit awhile. Then give it some love taps with a dead blow hammer, wood mallet, etc. Something that wont damage the teeth. It should slide straight off, it wont twist off since it is a keyed sprocket.

If that doesn't work, you could most likely get a gear puller up in there but again, I haven't had to do that.

This may sound dumb but when you say bolt in the middle of the crank sprocket are you referring to the 20mm bolt the harmonic balancer covers? I never tried the cam seal I was afraid my cam will roll causing major timing issue. Is that a problem to worry about? I appreciate the help

As far as your timing goes there's a pin on the cam so it shouldn't mess up timing (there's only one way to put the cam gear on the cam) and yes they are referring to the big ass (20mm?)bolt on the crank gear.

Hope this helps,

Fred

21mm socket.

Hoping that you do know how to do a timing belt already.

The front camshaft oil seal and the front crankshaft oil seal are the same part, believe the part number is FS0510602A.

Looking at doing this as well. What is the proper procedure for replacing? I remember some people referring to using a "Sneaky Pete" to pull it, then using some lithium grease to put it back in?
