I just put new plugs in her and I thought I'd check the wires as well.

My Chilton manual says the wires should be 16K ohms/ft. That seems high to me. My wires measure approx. 1/10 that. Anybody know the spec for the ignition wires on this beast?

P.S.: OOPS! I misread the spec. Its 16K ohms/meter (3.3ft), so about 5K ohms/ft.

Mine are still way low. That's what I get for putting Bosch wires on I guess.

Update: I ordered a set of Denso wires from Rock. They spec'd out correctly when I meas. 'em. Also, even though your old wires (if really old) may look just fine, they're probably not. You need to check the resistance reading. I had 2 wires meas. infinite ohms (open circuit) but engine still running fairly well.

Update some more: I forgot to mention, the first wires I ordered from Rock were NGK. They were about 4" too long for this truck. Had to return them for the Denso wires which were only about 1" or so too long - manageable.

My 1988 still is running the original factory wires on it, in the Arizona heat. I don't see any reason yet to upgrade those, and haven't found any nearly as sturdy looking.

What do factory ones cost (they sure have lasted)?

I run accel 8mm wires with a accel coil.I simply bought a set for a v8 cut to length and crimped my ends.I can always reuse the boots so I have 2 sets for say 35.00 on cost.I find any of the cheapo sets sold from any auto store just are crap.I have the yellow color version and zero problems.Def worth the time to crimp the ends, cut to length imo for the cost and solid service. If you go this route just grease the ends to the plugs and rotor cap the boots will slide on easier over the connectors.Lithium grease is my choice over the diaelectrical grease.Napa sells this in a good size container and cream colored over the clear of the diaelectrical.

I use Racing Beat wires from my old FC 2nd gen RX-7 there were only 4 of them so when I got rid of my 7, I just swapped the four over and used the accel coil wire wire I already had in there, wasn't a noticeable difference (other than they are made with red silicon haha) and they have been good for 6+ years. Whenever I need new ones I will prob get the same ones. They are very sturdy and look/feel really nice.
