Hey everyone, I bought a 1987 b2200 last week, and it seemed totally fine then. It is the five speed carbureted 2.2 with only 115k, and yesterday (after a 60 mile highway drive) I let it cool down, then drove it to the store. On the way, I noticed that when it heated up, it started to not only lose power, but started bucking and sputtering. When I put more gas into it, it stalled out completely while I was driving. I was able to restart it without issues, but after that it happened every time I tried to get somewhere. It took me about 3 stalls to get the mile back home. The air filter has been recently replaced, and I quickly cleaned the carburetor, but it made no difference. As soon as it is heated up, it starts stalling. My first thought was maybe the fuel filter or fuel pump, but I did some research online and many people with the same issue said they replaced these and it did nothing (and they didn't bother to tell us what it was when they fixed it either). I just want to make sure I know what it is before I spend any money. I am sure there are many of you out there that have experienced this same thing. If you could give me any advice, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

(and I WILL let everyone know what it was when I fix it)

OK: cheap and easy. Unscrew the EGR valve on the passenger side of the engine, and see if its piston is stuck open or partially open. 10mm socket wrench, three bolts.

If it were EGR, it wouldn't idle for crap! Then it would run better at speed.

Fuel filters are cheap. I had the same symptoms before I ever found this site... It took a few days to figure it out, but changing the FF fixed it.

I also had a similar issue on an old Honda Accord. Turns out the coil would fail when warm, then spec out okay when cool.

Check your exhaust system. Clogging catalytic converters or muffler...

I figured that stalling happened when he tried to idle, my bad.

If mine, first thing I'd rule out would be bad electrical ignition switch, like maybe the coil isn't getting power at times.

Hey everyone, thanks for the input! I replaced the fuel filter, and the problem is solved. I couldn't even blow air through it haha. I think its time to drain/replace my gas tank next lol. Thanks for the help everyone!
