New to this. Thought I'd consult you guys while I have the thing professionally diagnosed. So here's the deal. I've got a 91 B2200 SE-5, new radiator, upper and lower hoses, 4 month old water pump, and a brand new 190 degree stat. I lose an entire reservoir of coolant every 150-200 miles, and get bubbles in the res after turning the engine off for a good 10-15 seconds. When I went to burp the new radiator, I continued to see sporadic bubbles after 25-30 minutes of letting it idle. Did a pressure test and found that it lost compression. I am assuming I have a bad HG. I am 16 and have been turning a wrench on this truck for about 4 months. I have a couple of friends through my work that are backyard mechanics and I am wondering if it is possible for me and one of my buddies to do the job ourselves? Any input would be nice... Still looking for a good step by step for my exact truck...
Thanks in advance,
Zach

I dont know your skill level. But I was 17 when I had my first mazda and the head warped. Me and my step dad removed the head to send to a machine shop. We reassembled with a new head gasket after I got the head back from the shop. The only manual I went by was a Haynes manual. There was no mazda forum then. We had no problems and the truck ran like a champ afterwards.

You will save money if you do it yourself. There is some good info on here, and people will help with questions. Good luck!!

You should pressure test the cylinders - get an adapter and put shop air into the spark plug hole (make sure the piston is at top or bottom).

If it leaks into the crankcase or cooling system, your head gasket is most likely blown.

It could still be a cracked head or block but not as likely.

Just thoroughly research the theories of head gasket jobs.
