So, I can't remember who or where, but I read that on the rear of the stock B alternator, there is a single blade-style output called the stator that outputs a constant 12V, but only when the alternator is turning. Since I have a Weber carb and an electronic fuel pump, I simply placed a wire (with an inline fuse) from this stator to both the electric choke on the carb and to the fuel pump. (The ground for the fuel pump is directly wired to the negative on the battery.)

I was having issues when first getting my B2200 to start (turns out just low on gas, crap in tank, etc.) but in diagnosing I noticed that the voltage at the choke is only showing 6 - 6.5V. Perhaps diagnosing directly on the electric connector of the choke is a bad idea, but I thought it should be a good place to check the output of the stator.

I do know the alternator itself it working / charging. I had it bench tested before installation. (You should've seen the look on the guy's face when I brought in two starters and two alternators to test from both trucks. "WTF?") Also, the battery, which has set for > 6 months, was originally at 12V, but after running for a little while, came out at 13V.

You are correct, that single spade connector on the rear of the alternator should only put out about 6 or 7v. It does NOT put out 12v and it shouldn't.

Well crap. Thanks for the info, Dan. After reading this I went and directly wired the choke and fuel pump to the battery and it ran smoothly. Before it would only run for an average of 30 seconds before dying.

Any suggestions on how to wire up these without requiring a switch? Perhaps find a 6V relay for that stator?

I had an extra set of relays from my father's Saturn, and found an SPST (methinks) relay. I tested to make sure that the 6V would throw the relay, which it did. So the stator is what throws the relay, and the connection goes from the positive terminal on the battery to the choke and fuel pump.

Unfortunately I have no way of securing the relay currently, so it's thoroughly taped to the top of the charcoal canister. I'm going to scour the junkyards and teh interwebs to find a holder to properly secure the relay.
