Hey guys, New here just bought an 87 B2200 what smokes like a mosquito fogger. So I tore the engine down to rebuild it only do discover that the cylinder bores are egg shaped very badly! And I'm pretty shure that boring the block will put it out of tolerances. Well I ran across a 1992 Ford Probe with the regular ole 2.2L FI engine that I'm quite familiar with and it runs quite strong. I've already got all the parts to rebuild the engine except the crank. I know that the block on the Probe/626 and the crank and rods are the same but the pistons are different. Has anyone ever put a 626/Probe short block in one of these trucks? Will the 626 pistons cause clearance issues? They aren't dished as deeply as the trucks so it would at least bump up the compression but I don't want to bend any valves I don't want to do anything crazy with the truck just want to make it a daily driver. Any info is much appreciated!

you should be fine with the 12v pistons with the 8v head. The main concern is the valve reliefs creating an interference issue using 8v pistons on a 12v application. The F series engines are non-interference engines so unless you jump a tooth you shouldn't have any issues. Just make sure that the valves are in the same position as the reliefs in the piston, and you should be alright.

While the pistons aren't dished as deep, the piston doesn't sit as high on the rod versus the stock B series application so the compression won't increase.

Well even the 8V pistons have reliefs for three valves per cylinder. And the intake and exhaust are still on the same side of the engine when you face the 626 engine in a rwd position. I suppose I'll give it a shot and let the results be known on here!

I have used the 626 pistons before in the B2200 block to get more compression and no problem.

Yea so far its going smoothly haven't found any differences in the block at all yet motor mount brackets and everything bolted right up. Hoping to drop it in this weekend!

Sorry, I should have replied before. There is no difference in the FWD block that will matter - I have a FWD block in one of my old trucks that I installed years ago and it still runs now.
