So today I swapped out my pc valve as a last ditch effort to cut down on some of the oil consumption. After a restart she started smoking really bad like it does on the usual morning start up.

I went and put the old p cv valve back in along with a new set of plugs since they were jacked. Problem persisted and I barely got her home.

So what the hell happened?

OK so it was always smoking or only started after the PCV swap.

If it stops as soon as it warms up to operating temp it's probably the rings...

Well it doesn't stop at all now. Just thought it was an odd coincidence on the timing of it.

Smoke on startup that goes away once running is usually due to worn valve stem seals. That is likely your original issue.

You could check the baffle area on the inner surface of the valve cover to make sure it is clean of deposits in case oil splashed back from the valve train is getting siphoned back through the PCV line into the intake.

Other than that you may just have a co-incident gasket or piston ring failure.

Valve stem seals have already been replace so we can rule that out. Its weird the way it smokes. When you first start it no smoke, it warms up for about a minute or two then smokes really bad for a minute or two then stops.

I just find it odd that a ring failed immediately after replacing the p cv valve.

Im probably going to do the rings. First ill pull the valve cover and have a look but then pull the pan and place the order.

So...im thinking of just doing a rebuild to basivallyn just give me a new motor with less problems.

2 questions.

Will this kit work?



I know a rebuilding more work and more time but in the long run I think ill be better off.

Other question is do y'all think just doing the rings would be better? There a is only $100 cost difference between the two.

Hey - I bought my engine kit from MizumoAuto too, in Oct. 2011. I bought a less-extensive kit though, as I had done the timing belt and water pump just 5 months earlier, and didn't feel I needed to replace those again.

So my B2200 has the same NPR pistons, NPR rings, and (likely) connecting rod bearings as in that kit. I used Fel-Pro head gasket kit on mine.

I didn't do a "full rebuild" since my crankshaft and old bearings looked so good, I left the main bearings in place and did not remove the engine to do this. I turned 199K on Friday.
