So, im trying to do a toggle style ignition, like used in almost all race applications (i know, its slow), but i basically need to take up space on my lower dash that i built, and i already have the gauges i need in my vents, so thats out of the question. i figured id do an ignition like in this kids car you see at right about 4:30 in the video. difference is ill be using a button instead of a switch for my starter motor. And by the way, if you havent seen this thing yet, watch the whole thing. ive never wanted to own something so horrible.

What im getting at is, how do i wire one up? preferably WITHOUT a key. i know it can be easily stolen, but ill put money on the fact that nobody wants the thing, and i have a quick release steering wheel and shifter(yes, you read it right) anyway. also the reason to no key, im trying to lose all the bulky plastic around my steering column and make one out of alum and cover it with some sort of material, probably leather, as im doing with my dash.

If one of you can make a really detailed explanation or a really crude wiring diagram as to how i do this, it would be great. i dont care if your child draws it out. it took me 3 days to figure out how to wire up my aftermarket radio, and the only reason i got it was because someone else did it for me. needless to say, im really lost when it comes to wiring. thanks for everyone that helps, or tells me im an idiot. thats always entertaining too.

Here's an idea.

If you buy a row of SPST 3 pin microswitches (one with N.O. N.C. and Center leads), the best ones for this application are the ones with about a 1/4 inch wide flat metal tab / bar coming off of them for use with robot edge detection (but not with the rollers)

One can make a nifty combination lock, simply by wiring all the switches in series, with some as Normally open, and some as normally closed, leaving only ONE possible combination for connection through.

Otherwise, if you are worried about security, put a relay in between the COIL (not the big power connections) on your starter relay, and wire that relay up to the brights.

Do a few google searches. I did one and found a ton of stuff like this including ...

its not the switchs im worried about, i have those, its just what wire goes to what part. from what ive got so far, and correct me if its wrong, but im running a wire from my starter button to the battery and then to the solenoid on the starter, then where im confused is if i have to use one or two ignition switches and where i have to wire them to. for security reasons im just using a fuel cutoff switch, which is already there since i always just leave my keys in my ignition.

I was always told never to use fuel cutoff switches, because they can... well, cut off the fuel while driving.

You are simply replacing the starting portion of your ignition switch where the starter is engaged. That means a negative(grounded) wire goes to one side of the switch and the positive(hot) goes to the other. You'll need a switch with a spring requiring you to hold it in place to start the truck so you don't inadvertantly leave it "on".

You may need to add a relay as well.

Here is a push button setup...

A dual switch sample...

Or try this...
