My temperature gauge doesn't work ive tested the sending unit and it's not that. I just ordered a mechanical one off ebay and it tells you the actual temperature so my question is what temperature is to hot for my engine.

Depending on the the thermostat you have installed it should not go above 192 which is the OEM temp recommendation.

I hope to be pulling a cluster including tachometer tomorrow, PM if interested.

Did your gauge needle move when you had ignition switched on and touched the sender wire to engine ground? I'm talking about the temperature sender near the thermostat outlet here.

It doesn't do anything. Fuel gauge doesn't work right either.

Another thought

That could be the in-tank sender or you could have a systemic issue in your truck.

I assume the speedo works.
