I bought this truck in 2010 and I remember having issues with fuel not lasting me a week at least. Little by little that issue kept disappearing and it got to the point where it was giving me at least 85 to 90 miles per 1/4 tank. For that type of truck, it's pretty good. I ran the truck like that for at least 2 years till I found out the cylinder head was cracked from 3 of the 4 valve chambers. I parked my truck for more than 3 months till I was able to get new parts including that brand new cylinder head. I did all the labor myself and got all the info from where I could to get the torque specs right and what not till I got it running. Since then, I noticed a terrible deficiency in the engine which was the fuel economy. It was now giving me only 60 miles per 1/4 tank tops. "/ I did like 2 trips to Houston and back with this truck and noticed it was burning a lot of oil. When I did my last trip to H town, I ran the truck for one week and right after that it started to do blow by. Horrible feeling after doing all that work to get my favorite and only vehicle running. I felt so devastated that I was thinking of selling it, but I was too attached to it that I decided to order the complete engine overhaul. Again, all the labor I did on my own except for the cylinder honing. I paid $200 bucks to get that done at a small local machine shop. The guy honed the cylinder walls, installed the piston pins, cut my crank shaft by 0.020" or .50mm ect... Ect... Ect..... When I got my truck running again, it smoked a lot for a while but then it quit, I guess there was a lot of oil left inside the moffler. Well, I ran the truck again and it still burns oil!!! When I did all the rebuilding,I started using the top brand synthetic oil and I think I had made a wrong choice. My brother suggested for me to use the oil that makes 20w-50. That's what using now. my carburetor was giving me more issues with the
carburetion and I bought a remanufactured carb, original to that type of engine. Now I recently made another trip to Houston and it actually did a lot better on gas, but I'm still not satisfied. Throughout this week I've been using the truck and from my calculation it's again giving me 60 miles per 1/4 tank and it's still burning a little bit of oil. I'm getting so frustrated with this and i feel like I'm running out of both options and ideas. Could somebody tell me what could be the biggest problem with my truck here? I do not wanna get rid of this truck and I want it to run better than it would before.
