1990 B2200, stock carb.

I'm trying to figure out why my fuel pump is not turning on after the engine is running. The fuel pump primes when the key is first turned on. As soon as the carb runs out of gas it dies. I'm trying to figure out where the ECM gets its signal that the engine is running. I also noticed the tach is not operating. The coil looks new, so I'm thinking the PO put a new coil on it at some point.

Any help or direction is appreciated.

"1990 B2200, stock carb. ". So yours must be an automatic transmission if it has an electric fuel pump instead of the manual pump on the rear of the cylinder head (because you state carb, so not a northwest or Canadian EFI B2200).

I'd check fuel filter, whether the electric pump is getting positive voltage to it when it dies, whether the fuel pump relay is working, etc. That's where I'd start.

yup, auto with an electric pump.

The relay is working (it primes just fine).

I'm trying to figure out why the ECM is not turning the relay on after the engine is running, or cranking for that matter.

Relay gets the signal when key is turned on, it never gets the signal to turn back on after the engine is started or while cranking.

Fuel filter is brand new. It primes just fine.

Am I wrong that the ECM is waiting for a RPM signal before it turns the fuel pump back on after the initiial prime? I have to cycle the key on and off for the prime to happen. The ECM is also suppossed to turn the fuel pump on while cranking correct?

you would be correct. check for power and grounds at the coil and the ecm. Ecm is behind the passenger kick panel. NOT under the drivers seat as many think. That's the abs module.

well I feel like an idiot. The problem was I had a wrong wire hooked up at the coil. The yellow/blue wire that connects to the coil was not connected and some other wire was connected where it was supposed to go.

I'll post a picture later showing what I mean.

Now to go figuring out this damn vacuum line mess that goes to the carb.
