So I'm just wondering about an exhaust wrap or a ceramic coating. Of coarse the ceramic looks a lot better than the wrap but supposedly the wrap protects the engine bay from excess heat when the paint does not so that. I am really leaning towards the paint because it will look nicer but I don't want to have over heating issues from not having a heat wrap.. So the question is. Will just painting the header cause that much of a difference in heat under the hoo just worried about damaging the B! Don't know if it could get jot enough to but its a good question! I've also heard that heat wrap messes up the header and can cause corrosion!

Please let me know!

My experience with heat wrap is that it looks cool(in my eyes) and it does keep the exhaust temp a tad bit lower that paint. But, like you said exhaust wrap does promote corrosion if the header isn't painted because any moisture in the air will get absorbed by the fabric. I would buy some cheap header paint before wrapping it. The answer to your question though is no. The pacesetter on my B is the uncoated one and it hasn't melted anything yet and I've had it for 25,000 miles now.

Okay awesome! Thanks a bunch for your input. I I want to paint mine the exhaust wrap is way more expensive than a few cans a paint. Don't get me wrong the exhaust wrap looks pretty cool but so does a multi colored header. So since you have had yours installed you haven't noticed a change on your temp gauge? Like it reading hotter because of the engine bay being hotter do to a open header?

Several here have run without heat shields on their exhausts without issues.

Just remember, your high-temperature paint is still going to smoke some at first when stuff gets hot.

IThanks for the heads up! I was going to go through the proper curing process. Idle for 10 minutes sit for 10 minutes. Idle for 20 sit for 20, idle for 30 sit for 30. Long process by the paint will stay that's for sure. Every kind of paint needs its cure time in order to get the full effect of the product!
