My truck cuts off sometime when I brake . In the last few months I have replaced lifters, fuel pump, fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, pcv and the drive shaft.at first I thought it was a bad egr so I go to remove it and it was unhooked and the vacuum line was blocked. I noticed that several vacuum lines are blocked off. Also on the valve cover the rubber hose that attaches to the air filter is getting oil into the carb. Any ideas what to do thanks.

On that EGR: if you have an aftermarket carburetor (Weber), even though not connected to vacuum, make sure that the piston in it is completely closed, or simply make a metal block-off plate. A partially-open EGR can cause stalling.

So can a vacuum leak cause stalling, check all those caps and ports, make sure that none are uncapped or have cracked caps. Vacuum hose and a wood golf tee make good caps.

There are also solenoids on the stock carb that cut off the fuel delivery when the ignition is shut off, so if those close down or fail to open, there will be idling issues.

I also had a stalling issue a decade ago, was solved by new pickup and ignitor into distributor, but not inexpensive.

ok i will check that this weekend. What about the oil getting into the carb from the hose on top of the valve cover

Unfortunately, that is oil blow-by from oil getting past the piston rings, from wear and failure of the oil control ring to maintain seal over time.

If your aim is to keep the carburetor cleaner, then a small under-$10 air filter can be purchased at O'Reilly or Autozone, and the rubber connector opened up a tad wider to fit onto the valve cover port (plug the hose to the carb itself).

So that means it time for a rebuild right? Thanks for your help
