Weber 32/36 DGEV on a 89 b2200 2.2L, the carb is almost a year old and I have started driving the truck to work again. I believe I have this carb adjusted right : 1 1/4 turn on idle speed screw and 2 turns on the mixture screw at the bottom and 2.5 psi fuel pressure. Idles great but accelerates a little slow for my taste. Only issue is this thing was running rich before I did my full tune up. Plugs were black from carbon. I did full ignition replacement minus new distributor. But the darn thing still smells like its running rich, it's bad enough where I shut the truck off at drive through windows. Absolutely no smoke from the exhaust. Also the engine has almost 3000 miles since full rebuild last year. I have rechecked my timing at it is 6 deg. I even hooked up a vacuum gauge to the intake, shows right between 18 and 19 in.Hg. Going by what Weber says it is right but the smell from the exhaust can't be right. Any ideas?

What idle jets are you running? I have Weber 32/36 DGEV on my 1988 B2200 2.2L, and I have used a 52 primary idle jet (passenger side) and a 45 secondary idle jet (driver side) for 9 years. My plugs have looked fine in the three years since my engine rebuild.

Stock jets. Not sure what the sizes are since I haven't taken the carb apart since i bought it. I have noticed a drop in mpg. When I started back driving it full time I was getting 21 mpg and now its 18.

Those jets are removed using a flat blade screwdriver (I use a stubby for the driver side jet holder) without taking the carb apart. Don't lose the little sealing O-rings under the jet holder as you pull that out (with the jet inside) of the carburetor. I typically lay down a white towel on top of the intake manifold in case anything was dropped.

Good tip. I'm good at losing small parts it seems. I do have an old weber that I modified to work on the stock intake. It never had this issue so I'll check the jet sizes in it also.

Primary idle jet is .60 secondary idle jet is .50. I checked the float level and it was off by a few mm. Got it set at 35mm per instructions. Bumped the timing to 7 deg since throttle response sucks at 6 deg. Still smells rich out of the exhaust. Glad they don't do emissions testing here. The jets in my old carb are the same size but never noticed the exhaust smell since it burned more oil than gas.

Little update. Pulled the carb yesterday and cleaned it out. Very little trash and all passages were clear. I did notice that my fuel pressure drop as soon as I shut the engine off where as it used to stay at 2.5 psi for a while after I shut it off. When I pulled the carb there was a puddle of gas in the intake and I had not touched the throttle beforehand. I did pull a Cusser and sand the adapter plates flat and added new gasket material with the Permatex Aviation sealer I just got. My new jets, needle and seat and air cleaner will be in tomorrow so hopefully that will fix this.

Well, I tried the new smaller jets. I tried a 55 and a 50. Both of the new jets threw my mixture way out of adjustment. When I tried the 55 I had to back the mixture screw out past 3 turns and the 50 was even worse. I did replace the needle valve and reset the float height, still running same fuel pressure but I don't smell gas from under the hood anymore. Runs rich, the soot is on my tailgate now so I'm at a loss on this thing. My mpg is at 20 now which is better than the 18 I was getting. Also checked on the secondary butterfly to make sure it was closed. Backed the screw out 1/4 turn and it shut nicely but the exhaust still reeks. I almost forgot to mention it lopes like a dragster when you first start it, once I tap the gas it evens out so not sure what that means.
