so can a 2.6 be built mild like just head work cam and it still run good on sock computer or is it easier to swap a 302 carbed?im puzzled cause wiring i know i can do a panles wiring harness but how hard is it to get stock gauges to work gas hand and such im bagged and bout be bodied.im asking for help since my 2.6 is such a hassle to figure out.ive always owned chevys 350s and 454s so im not used to all the wiring and sensors

it might be best to build up the 2.6. now if you have time money and patience, then the 302 would be the way to go. but with the 302 you will have to modify the engine and transmission mounts as well as the driveshaft. the stock trans is in no way strong enough to handle the 302. i havent done the 302 swap but i have swaped a 3.0 v6 and automatic in my b22. you may have to do a body lift and have to do a lot of cutting and welding. im not trying to shoot you down about the 302 but if you can make it work go for it. i do know that you will have to cut the radiator support and firewall and move the radiator. it may be best to pull the cab off the frame put the engine/transmission in first the put the body back on. let me know how it goes

Body lift? No ! 302 is not to hard ! I have done a 2600I I used all stock gauges except tach! Easiest way is to get motor mounts out of b2000 or 2200 ! And I mean the Frame portion then use mid too late 80 0r early 90 convertible motor mounts! they are stiffer! Put left Mount on right right on left ! Then, bolt the frame portion too the mounts drop in engine bay n spot weld! Then, remove engine and finish weld! good luck need any info! holler

If you go V8 and still want your tach to work, here's a how-to.
