Hey guys, got a question for some of you guys that may have tried this before. I have 2 B2600i's. One 4wd one 2wd, different year models. I'm pretty sure that the computers have the 2 yellow connectors.

I read somewhere, I think it was even posted by Axel, that a repaired computer may not get as good of gas mileage as others. My 4wd gets terrible mileage, I get about 160 miles to a tank, which is about 15mpg. My 2wd on the other had gets about 240-260 miles to the tank which is about 21-22 mpg. I was thinking about swapping the computers for a tank, just to see if I could get more mileage out of the 4wd. Will I hurt anything in the computers? Does it matter is one is 4wd and one is 2wd? They are both 5 speeds.

I know a 4wd typically gets a few less mpg's thatn a 2wd, but I would at least hope to get 200 miles out of a tank.

Any opinions are welcomed

My truck with the winter fuel is getting just under 19 mpg, summer time it gets over 20. 93 4x4 5 spd

I see no reason you couldnt swap the computer.

Well swapped the computers. The 4X4 isn't getting the gas mileage that I had hoped, but man it is running very good. I do know that I am losing some mileage on my tripometer because I have 31X10.50's on there. Now on the other hand, the computer that I put in my 2wd truck, gets very bad gas mileage. Very bad! I went from 240 to 260 miles on a tank to probably just a little over 200 miles on this current tank. So, I guess I need to hunt a computer.

That is an interesting result. On your 4X4 truck did you clean the spark plugs after the swap out? I assume both are EFI systems.

No I didn't clean the plugs. I may try that. I did put the timing light on both. I know I have read a thead by Axel Breaker Earl, where sometimes the computer repair places just get them fixed to make the truck run. I was wondering if there was any hope for the computer? Or do I need to hunt one. I haven't took the cover off to see if any of the traces are shot. Oh yeah, filled the 2wd up, and didn't even get 200 miles out of the tank.

try sourcing out an ecu from a 4 cyl MPV. 90-93 should be the ones with the 2 connectors. the 89 has 3 connectors.

That is good to know HitDogg!
I know that I had a similar experience when I changed the computer in mine after getting bad mileage, but with you having 2 trucks and knowing what they've been getting in MPG then swapping and getting worse, that underlines my discovery also! I would love to put a MegaSquirt or similar in my truck so I could play with the settings and see what kind of mileage I could get out of these trucks.

Thanks for posting your findings on this!

Mega Squirt huh? Very interesting. How much are those setups? A rebuilt computer from just about any parts house is 4 to 500 bucks. How easy are they to set up? Has anybody ever set one up on a 2600i?
