Looking at the distributor from the drivers side fender adjustment is as follows:
Counter clockwise retards timing (towards radiator)
Clockwise advances timing (towards firewall).
My '93 2.6 has a sticker on hood saying it should be set at 5* BTDC (before top dead center).
And yes, it was off--I was at 4* ATDC (after top dead center). Seems to run much better now. . .
