I don't know how the metal around that hole looks, or how much room you have on each side, but I've used Swagelok brand metric unions to fix stuff before, even seals with helium and hydrogen gas, way smaller molecules than gasoline. We use these at work. I wouldn't trust other types of unions, most are made for home plumbing use only.

But maybe it's better to just get new for this.

Hey Cusser, I actually did lift the handle before closing the gate, but I may have done it with one hand. I think the combination of it being possibly cracked and the weight of the gate snapped it right off. The previous owner of the truck told me to lift it before closing it and I just assumed that it was a quirk specific to my individual truck. Is it just these Mazdas that need to be closed as such or is it all pick up trucks?

Thanks for the info about the Swagelok. Unfortunately the hole was right at the bottom of the line, no room at all. It's good to know about the Swageloks though. With those, would I cut the line, and stick the union between the sections? Does it seal by tightening?

Yes, between the sections, and tighten with wrenches. SAE and metric sizes, and in metals to match the tubing (steel/steel and brass/copper).
