I'm getting no spark out of the coil, but I am getting 12v to it. All fuses have been checked, the underhood main was blown when I bought it. Was an easy fix for a $500 truck. I have a ignition coil to borrow this weekend, gonna toss it in and see what happens.

Charged the battery and decided to do some wiggling of the key while turning it over and just before I was about to throw the towel, it fired. Guess I got my answer. Thanks for the replies. It's a tough and fun little truck, I can see why you guys like them. A workshop manual is in my future.

Well, now it's in your NEAR future.

Spectacular, I appreciate that.

It's been sitting dead way too long, really need to run it. Must have been a fluke jiggling the ignition, ignition switch is fine. It must be that darn distributor, ECU looks mint. I still need to have my buddy upgrade the ECU so the dreaded leaking doesn't rear its ugly head. Everyone had okay luck with a distributor from partsgeek or the like? I hate buying cheap parts, but Mazda prices are pretty rough.

I have had good luck with rockauto.com parts.
Everyone here will tell you, how the ECU looks inside means nothing, and blown capacitor do not hold up a red flag. Short of a poor wire connection somewhere, no spark, probably the ECU.
The computer controls the GROUND in most circuits, 12 volts present anywhere means nothing as far as not running. Making and breaking connection with a ground wire (not the actual truck wire a piece of wire grounded.) on the not hot side of the coil should exhibit spark jump from lead. Of course this is with switch on for the 12 volts.

Dang, need two of me. Still haven't had time to mess with it. Thanks geterdun, I was under the impression the ECU generally showed some physical signs of leaking. I know I need to have it fixed/upgraded anyway.
