Aftermarket Air Cleaner on stock carb?

I know this has been discussed but I cant find the thread.

I put a k&n on my old truck with a stalk carb. I just cut a plate to the size I wanted and tapped the emissions in. Then same with the top, just cut plate into the shape and bolted it down. Never had a prob. And looked decent.
