project bastardized 86 golf gas

picked up this hoopty for free! I have my work cut out for me. brakes are corned, windshield is corned. wiring is scary...
the car has not ran in four years, the kid that had it tore into the under dash wiring for some reason, so that's where I will start. get it running on minimal power. I plan to restore it "rat" style with intentional rusting to accent the already dented and whooped body. since I live in Saskatchewan, I only need to do the minimal work for a safety and then never again. no smog testing here either.
anyone know anything about these?

got all the old gas pumped out today and removed the starter from it to see if I could get it working right. all the fuses are replaced, I figured out that the ignition wire has a break somewhere between the ignition and the starter itself so that's going to get repaired, since the guts are gone from the ignition I have to make it a toggle switch and push button.
more to come, it's a long way from a liscence plate yet!
